Late update today as I am down at Mt Maunganui competing at the Northern Regional Surf Lifesaving Championships and the interest shown by the clubbies on the beach has been huge. Everywhere I went on the beach people were asking after Shaun and wanting to know how he was doing!
Yesterday Shaun “hammered it”, striking off...

Looking at the progress map Shaun finally got taken east last night. He was really positive about this as yesterday he put in some hard slog! He is now approximately 600km east of Australia and so is roughly a quarter of the way! The plan from here is to go slightly more south, around 35deg...

Last night Shaun was forced to row until midnight due to the westward currents, however he made some great progress and slept well. This morning the Tasman is in a good mood and he will be looking to get as many strokes done as possible before some adverse weather sets in.

Well Shaun has now been out on the Tasman for one week and has made great progress, 260 nautical miles in fact.
Yesterday Shaun rowed pretty hard all day in an easterly direction as the current tried to take him south west, which resulted in a southerly movement. Once he put away the sticks for the...

Shaun was upbeat and ready to make the most of some ‘perfect’ rowing conditions this morning. It is overcast and a bit glum but the wind is right and the temperature is starting to get cooler which will make rowing easier. Last night he felt like he was in the middle of a battlefield as...

This morning Shaun expected to wake to rowable conditions and a 10-15Knot N-NW wind. Instead, a storm is battering straight into his nose. This shows the true unpredictable nature of the Tasman! He was also late to check in this morning because he was busy trying to ground his boat as there were some flashes...

This morning Shaun arose to an eased weather situation. Whilst it is still rough, it is nothing like the strong winds and massive swells he faced yesterday. He thinks he may be able to get out and row if it eases more however he is making good directional progress thanks to the currents. At present...

Shaun made some real positive progress eastward yesterday and last night. He is sitting on the edge of two eastward moving eddies that will push him further eastward. As at 8am this morning he was 120 nautical miles from Coff’s Harbour and roughly 100 nautical miles off the nearest coast which happens to be Forster,...

After a great night sleep Shaun drifted 30 nautical miles South South East thanks to his sea anchor. He is feeling good and looking to turn east and into the East Australian Current. Keep an eye on his live map because there could be some interesting movements as he slides between two large surface current systems.

EXPEDITION COMMENTARY // RUSH LABS
First check on Shaun’s progress this morning… all looks good. His drift over night was favourable and it looks like he made an early start. SQ has covered almost 40km now which is excellent progress for a trip that will end up being some 2500km’s. He has not been live for...
