Sometimes you have to go back to go forward // Day 8
Well Shaun has now been out on the Tasman for one week and has made great progress, 260 nautical miles in fact.
Yesterday Shaun rowed pretty hard all day in an easterly direction as the current tried to take him south west, which resulted in a southerly movement. Once he put away the sticks for the day the current pulled him south west. This was expected as he is rounding an anti-clockwise moving eddie.
Yesterday at one stage a “gigantic shadow swam under me for about a km or so. It was brown on top and white underneath. I decided to ignore it and keep rowing!” – the old what you can’t see can’t hurt you philosophy!
Today Shaun is feeling positive and will keep rowing east as he is pulled south west. Hopefully soon he will round the eddie edge and be swing eastward.

God Bless Quiency , your story is being told all round Miami….
good going still fine on westcoast south Is hope you reach this high soon
Well done Shaun. What a really inspiring journey you are on. I am sure all the boys that have played rugby and rowed boats with you are feeling pretty inspired well done and we look forward to having a good beer when you get home. From Jason Gail Michaela and Brooke.

Hey Shaun, I was so impressed to hear what you are doing, in awe at the degree of courage and determination in such an enterprise. I know how empty and vast it can be out there having sailed lots offshore in the past. My daughter and her husband just crossed the Tasman in their 32′ Wylo, 12 days from Newcastle to Opua – hope you have the favourable conditions they had, at least some of the time! Kia kaha!
