Battered and Bruised // Day 14

Last night and today have been tough for Shaun. Strong easterlies and large swells have been crashing into Tasman Trespasser 2, tossing Shaun around inside his small cabin. He is frustrated about the weather but realises there is nothing he can do but ride it out and get ready for some better conditions. Unfortunately the easterlies are forecast till Thursday so he potentially has a long cabin stint ahead.

You would have noticed that over the past 24 hours or so Shaun has been pushed west. This looks rather alarming when zoomed in close to the live tracking however when you zoom out so that both Australia and new Zealand are visible you notice that the westerly movement is pretty negligible.

Shaun really has been buoyed by your messages of support so keep them flowing!

  1. what’s with this fear to forcast the worst information today? Why sugar coat everything, this is why no one is prepared for problems when they arise, because the Media won’t go ahead and say that the Hurricane is going to come on land and curve right over NC, VA, MD, DC etc… instead the track is softened to “hopefully” keep the storm off of the coast. They’ve miss predicted the storm the entire track why try to keep making best case scenario predictions… I hate Weathermen. Just make the track right and then everyone will be releaved when the Hurricane “DOESN’T” make landfall.

  3. Susie Williams says:

Hey Shaun, You are an inspiration, so your office has a bit of rock n roll. I’m sure it’s really nasty and uncomfortable. The sea is like a person, it gets angry but it won’t last forever. Must be nice to know that you have a huge and growing fan base. Cheers Susie, Kevin Stef and James Williams

  4. Tom Wigram says:

Shaun, dig deep dude, before you will know it the wind will have changed and you will be making some great head way surfing with the waves!
    Keep up the great effort.
    Tom

  5. Lane Family says:

  6. Go Quincey,
When ever we get off the erg we think about what you are doing…..
    BIG CAJONES!!!
We missed you at the mount. Here’s a chuckle for you!

While she was ‘flying’ down the road yesterday, a woman passed over a bridge, only to find a cop with a radar gun on the other side lying in wait.

The cop pulled her over, walked up to the car, with that classic patronizing smirk we all know and love, and asked, ‘What’s your hurry?’

To which she replied, ‘I’m late for work.’

‘Oh yeah,’ said the cop, ‘what do you do?’

‘I’m a rectum stretcher,’ she responded.

The cop stammered, ‘A what? A rectum stretcher?
And just what does a rectum stretcher do?’

‘Well,’ she said, ‘I start by inserting one finger, then work my way up to two fingers, then three, then four, then with my whole hand in. I work from side to side until I can get both hands in, and then I slowly but surely stretch it, until it’s about 6 feet wide.’

‘And just what the hell do you do with a 6 foot arsehole?’ he asked.

‘You give him a radar gun and park him behind a bridge…’

  7. James Brown says:

Yea bro, hang in there, be good for the hulk to get some rest before you smash out some miles…

    Peace

  8. Ian Gordon says:

Congratulations on all you have achieved so far Shaun. The hard work will pay off. Watching your progress with great interest from Brisbane.

  9. kendal mullane says:

Hi Shaun, well done on the trip so fa. The Mullane family are all keeping a close eye on ya and hope the wether gets better soon. Keep up the good work and hope you’l be out of the cabin soon :-)

  10. Esther den Adel says:

Hi there Shaun, I remember you and Brett talking about rowing the Tasman one night (in Wellington) and usually, those late night boozy ideas never materialise.
So when I saw your smiling face on the late-night news and heard that you were about to row the Tasman, I nearly rolled off the couch.
I take my hat off for you and follow your progress. Well done!!
    Esther (and Brett)

  11. Yo Quincey – what are you doing to keep yourself busy and focused while locked away in the cabin? Keep it clean though mate :)

  12. Judy and Mick says:

Hi Shaun – Keep up the spirits. You are already a champ in our eyes! We have followed your progress with interest and admiration since meeting you at the Beach Motel in Coffs Harbour early January. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Godspeed.

  13. Chin up fella – If it was easy, any random idiot would do it. But no my friend – your the first random idiot that’s got big enough kahuna’s to make it happen. Instead, the rest of us turn up to taka on a tuesday and paddle 5 km. I’m embarrassed for us. So incredibly impressed right now.

  14. Oceans and seas give and take, but mostly they give. I was looking back at my progress from the Atlantic in 07 and it was so nice to see that most of the time we moved in the right direction. Just think, the Atlantic racers have just come of a full 5 days on their sea anchors! But even for them things have changed back for the better and they’re on the move towards Antigua once more. Your progress has been superb and will continue to be, it’s just a matter of biding your time till the sea let’s you crack on, which it will. As always I’m so envious of your exped. Keep it up champ!
