Rowing and Scrubbing // Day 21
Today was a nice day on the Tasman. There was still a bit of a swell moving west but Quincey managed to get some good strokes in and has headed south which is favourable.
Today’s highlight was jumping overboard to scrub the hull which had picked up about a cm thick worth of barnacles and other sea life. Shaun managed to scrub about half the boat however this attracted a lot of sea life and with a couple shark sightings in the past week he decided he will scrub the other half tomorrow!
Forecast for tomorrow is zero wind and then NW in the following few days so he is very excited to row!

Gday Sean. TV3 have just played the documentary “Crossing the Ditch” about Justin Jones and James Castrission. Really enjoyed it. Couldn’t help but think of you out there battling away on your own. You are going to have a great story to tell for your own documentary. Or maybe even a miniseries. What the hell, why not a big budget epic. Any chance of Peter Jackson directing?
Have been visiting the site over the past couple of weeks. Have flown the Tasman last weekend and just wanted to wich you all the best. Keep it up and row for New Zealand.
‘Row, row, row your boat’ Shaun. Hope the sea remains gentle for you for the next wee while in order to bolster your morale and strength. You are an inspiration!! With love and best wishes from us all.
Good to hear from you on sunday….great to see you paddling again….watch out for munchies when scrubbing boat bottom , everything out there’s gotta be hungry. Regards to Wilson .
Cheers, Dave.
Hey Quincey love what you are doing! Think of mag nights in Mangas to pass the time. Go hard, Jess x
Big Q dog,
All sounds good me old china.
Get in that seat and row like hell.
Wish I could be there to help you scrub your bottom.
Talk soon.
Morning Quincey, beautiful morning here in Aucks and hope its like this on the water. Thinking of your herculean feat, enjoy your day on the oars.
Hey buddy – you wanna get back under and finish that scrubbing asap. If you’ve seriously got a cm of growth under there it’ll be slowing your boat speed by up to 2knots. You’ll be amazed at how fast you fly without it. As soon as you get the lumpy green slime forming jump back in and scrub again. Every couple of weeks is good.
