7 WEEKS! // Day 49
Can you imagine 7 weeks of solitary confinement in a space so large that you cannot see anything but water and sky in every direction. A space who’s unpredictable nature can change from being calm one day to treacherous the next with the only place to hide being a coffin-like box! In order to escape the situation you aim for the closest and safest place to land only to be swept 100’s of miles off course and all the while your only contact with the rest of the world is through a cell phone! This has been the life of Shaun Quincey for the past 49 days! And whilst the above does paint a grim picture, there have been a vast amount of incredible highs that will make his expedition unforgettable for not only himself but for all followers.
I’m sure you’ve probably been quite alarmed at Shaun’s movement over the past few days. He has been experiencing strong southerlies that have pushed him well north of his planned route. Over the next few days he will experience some very strong SW that will push him home faster but in a NE direction. This means that Taranaki and Auckland are well out of the landing equation. In speaking with him tonight, his new goal is Hokianga Harbour which is very fitting since it was the departure venue for Colin Quincey and Tasman Trespasser 1 over 30 years ago! Its almost as if he is being drawn to that location and hopefully within a week Tasman Trespasser II will hit solid ground. However, as we’ve experienced many times over the past 7 weeks, the Tasman is so unpredictable that our estimations mean nothing!
Make sure that over the next few days you keep a close eye out on this page for updates on his arrival and then make plans to be present for this historical event!

So close Quincey – keep it up mate, you’re nearly home!
I’m pleased you are nearly here!I live on the Kapiti Coast ( by Wellington) and its abit far away to come and watch you land but I will definately by watching for you on the news!!! Good luck with the last part of your row! Me and my mum hope its smooth rowing for you!!!!
Hi Shaun,
Awesome feat! We have all been following your adventure with huge interest. You are so close now and we are all hoping you will land here in the beautiful north.
You are a great inspiration to so many people and you now have a whole nation willing you on to the finish. Keep your spirits up and remember to keep a little weight on the stroke side oar, you dont want miss the Hokianga.
Outstanding “Kiwi” achievement, not too long to go now, keep it up , look out for the long white cloud & mountains, cheers
Land at shippies!
Just heard you talking Shaun to Shaun on National Radio!! We were at the New Zealand Ironman at Taupo on the weekend and you were the talk of the athletes Shaun. We had our Timex stand at the expo and many came to ask about you and one guy sorry forget his name but a recent head of Surf Life Saving NZ knew you very well and asked me to pass on his best to you.
You sounded great on Radio, very positive, very much in control and clearly focused on the last chapter keep it up and will be there to greet you.
Having followed you that closely over the last 7 weeks, would love to be on the beach when you land, but, unfortunately, Perth Western Australia to NZ is cost prohibitive! All the best for your last few days, hope you get the conditions that get you home fast! Well done!
