Waiting for Westerlies // Day 47
Pretty average day for Shaun. He was cooped up in his cabin for the majority of the day since rowing was frustrating and fruitless.
He has two more days of Easterly wind then has some strong Westerlies to hopefully push him home!

Hi Shaun
My plane is all fueled up and be up and over you when you get to the 50nm line. Fantastic effot, you family must be very proud of you Keep cruising Gemmell family
Keep up the good work Shaun.Hope the wind improves soon
Hey Mate, haven’t seen you in a few years but saw what you doing and just wanted to leave a message to say good on ya!!!Its awesome what you are doing. Hang in there just a few more days left to go.
Cheers Sandi (bethells beach)
Hey Boss
If the Naki is out of the question, an after party at the Mairangi Bay surf club would be superb…..
Keep up the awesome work mate, I have a few of the team at BNZ checking your status everyday….
Hi Shaun – well done…you are unbelievable!!! We at Salthouse Boatbuilders and all of the families have been keeping an eye on you! Have you seen “Wilson” out there – keep your eyes peeled!!!Good to hear you on the radio last week. Take care and we will see you when you return…get as close to the big AK as you can and we will meet you with some muffins!!! Sam and the Salthouse crew.
Following progress with interest daily, a remarkable effort. After crossing the Tasman on container ships and seeing what the weather can be like, I’m in total awe of this solitary trip. You obviously have a great support team with your family, friends and all supporters.Wishing you all that is good and safe, Kiwi’s in Oz
Go Quincey! You’re doing great mate, so close to home xo
Quincey looks like you will be coming into Auckland at this rate. Keep it up mate!
I’m so proud to be a Quincey, am in complete awe of you! You are doing amazingly, not much longer to go!!
Hi if you aim for the Manakau, head up to Otahuhu and we will portage your boat to the Tamaki River, then its not far to paddle home.Im sure the traffic will stop for you.
Bring on those westerlies – you are so close!!! Looking forward to tomorrows web update already.
Quincy Great to see you regaining some westward momentum! Hope the winds drop and you get some surf to give you a hand and push you towards the coast. If you end up over North Cape be sure to stop in at Red Beach for a beer on your way back down to Mairangi Bay!
Hi Shaun, Still hoping you can make it to New Plymouth as we were there with the kids at the beach when James & Justin came in a couple of years back. It was a great atmosphere then and I’m sure we could do it all again – especially with you being a kiwi!!
We’re in Devonport and following your progress towards us. You’re amazing! You’re almost here! I’ll get my 6 year old to do a wind dance to get it to blow this way. Keep up the good work!
Keep going Quincey!! Not far now, just keep those oars going around!! You are doing such an incredible job – you are going to be blown away by the HUGE support for you that is going on back here! Stay Safe
Bucky – you are a legend – thanks for all your hard work keeping us all up to date!
yo yo quincey, I am praying for these bloody winds so you get back faster! hope you are looking after yourself out there. you arnt missing out on much back on land, still same old although we have been pretty lucky with the weather. hopefully it holds out for the 26th. I am crossing all my fingers and toes that you get a good push and get back in time.xx
Sorry, I meant the article in NZ GEOGRAPHIC – amazing pics
Hi Shaun – spent the weekend at the Taupo Ironman and heaps of people were asking us about you and talking about how they admire your huge effort and endurance. The article and advert in NZ Wilderness looks amazing – we have been showing it to everyone and saying how proud TIMEX is to be associated with you. Keep going and remember – you are and IRONMAN
From the TIMEX team
Yeah, roll on the westerlies! Frustrating to be cooped up like this when you’re so close – but you ARE so close, and a bit more every day. So excited to think you will be back soon – and with photos and great tales for us all too. Almost there!
Q Dog – looking good. Keep the acid on. If you just aim for Orewa it’d be sweet. Might need a slight deviation around the cape, but the way you’re going you’ll smoke it! I’ll bring the jetski out to see ya in champ (as long as it isn’t the south island – they’re strange there man). Kia Kaha old boy!
Have listened to you on radio this am. Not too keen on the shark sighting but whales and dolphins sound good.
Hope those Westerlies kick in early for you. Go Shaun Go
We check a few times a day because your efforts are so inspiring. What will so captivate us when you get home we wonder. Lots of best wishes.
Awesome, super excited for wherever you land. Not far to go now!!
Not far now. Keep hanging in and get home just as soon as the sea gods allow. Keep safe/ Kindest wishes
