SHAUN QUINCEY’S PHYSICAL PREPARATION
As part of Shaun’s preparation for the physical and mental challenges of his expedition, Shaun was training as a sponsored athlete of CrossFit Auckland up to five days per week to raise his level of general physical preparedness. Beyond everyday functionality, CrossFit helped ensure Shaun’s body runs as efficiently as possible – all the right muscles working and firing in the right sequence. Shaun’s needs differ from the normal CrossFitter in that we adjusted his training to the longer duration work required of him. More emphasis was placed on Strength-Endurance, Cardiovascular and Respiratory Endurance, Stamina and Recovery!

There are some neat photos of Shaun performing CrossFit workouts on this web page: http://crossfitauckland.com/crossfit-auckland-sponsored-athlete/

While training at CrossFit Auckland, our members got into the spirit of Shaun’s adventure by participating in a 63km team indoor row. The 63km was chosen to honor Shaun’s father, Colin Quincy – the first man to row the Tasman solo and unassisted; it took Colin 63 days to cross the Tasman. The Tasman Trespasser Challenge will be an annual event at CrossFit Auckland, and we look forward to Shaun’s continued involvement as a valued member of our club and CrossFit family.

WHAT IS CROSSFIT?

CrossFit methodology recognizes ten general physical attributes. These are Cardiovascular/Respiratory Endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Co-ordination, Agility, Balance, and Accuracy. You are as fit as you are competent in each of these ten attributes of fitness. We believe that fitness is about performing well at any and every task imaginable. We manipulate each of the energy systems that power all human function to achieve all-round athleticism.

CrossFit workouts are constantly varied, you can expect workouts to include anything from callisthenic bodyweight exercises like squats, sit-ups and burpees, to using a variety of equipment like medicine balls, kettlebells and box jumps, gymnastic based movements such as ring dips and pull-ups, to weightlifting with barbells and dumbbells. CrossFit Auckland does not have a cardio room with treadmills, elliptical trainers, bikes and the like, in fact you will never again exercise on resistance or cardio machines. We strive to blur the line between “cardio and strength” training, as nature has no regard for this distinction; we blend our programming to match the uncertainty of life.

CrossFit training is functional and constantly varied. This constant variation will increase your all-round athleticism, and reduces the likelihood of you getting bored with your training. In-fact the opposite is true… CrossFit training is so addictive – you’ll want to constantly challenge yourself!

TRAINING YOU FOR YOUR REAL WORLD
CrossFit Auckland focuses on training your body to move the way it is meant to – increasing your energy, health and physical performance. We increase your levels of general athleticism by training you through constantly varied exercise sequences – the body is then forced to adapt.

All exercises prescribed in the “Workout of the Day” (WOD) are adaptable to suit your personal fitness and skill level, and will help you reach your fitness goals faster and more effectively than any other programme out there. Because the CrossFit method is designed for scalability, it’s perfect for any committed individual regardless of age, fitness or experience.

Unlike commercial gyms, CrossFit Auckland does not offer open gym hours, we have a “closed class” booking system; our members train with an expert coach or coaches every time they workout. Workouts are 100% supervised, and you are coached every step of the way to achieve amazing results.

At any CrossFit affiliated club throughout the world, you are certain to meet amazing athletes, but the majority of people are everyday people who have found a sport and community they enjoy being a part of!
