Still North // Day 48
Today was once again frustrating for Shaun as the South Easters continued to blow. He did however manage a big day of rowing and had approximately 35km of east progress to show for his efforts. He says the boat feels heavy,so tomorrow he plans to give the bottom another scrub which will hopefully make the last leg home speedy!
As at 8pm tonight Shaun was directly west of the Manukau Harbour at a distance of approximately 460km. This is in stark contrast to 4 days ago where he was approximately the same distance west of Taranaki! This shows what he has been battling with weather wise and with strong SW predicted from Wednesday till Monday, the hope of a Taranaki landing has pretty much vanished. Even an Auckland landing is now looking increasingly unlikely with the Kaipara area more of a possibility. Wherever he does land I’m sure there will be a huge amount of proud kiwis waiting to cheer his incredible feat!

hi nice to meut you i am javahn harris
here comes the westerlies bo straight into kaipara harbour good fish and chips shops there plenty of mountain dew too well see you up there your going well mate
Good on ya shaun, getting close now. Walked into boarders book store the other day and say a massive poster of the front cover of national geo that your on. Very cool. Keep the spirits up
Great work mate, we are all following your progress. Shame the photo on the site is around the wrong way it appears as though you are rowing back towards Aus. We can see good puddles so you are still strong.
Hey Shaun, good times out there uh!! enjoy the last 400km you have drawn a fair bit of attention of late… nothings changed uh!! If I recall the good old days amongst the boaties at Mairangi.
It’s time for the Mairangi Vice to put their months of training into three days of work before heading to Aussie. However, this is nothing compared to what you are achieving. In the meantime, we’ll stay tuned while we’re away. All the best mate. Wish you were here, but you will be soon.
Hey Quincey, keep up the solid effort. I’ve been following your progress. Several times each day in fact. If you don’t head too much further north, me and the quarry boys would welcome you onto Puketutu Island to mark the end of your journey.
Ya..forgot to say it was me…again…lol
I’m still in awe Shaun….I’m thinking it’s about time I booked my holiday to Fiji…so I’ll be in time to welcome you ashore. I’m guessing you’ll hit the south shore somewhere between Yadua and Galoa. Get your passpost ready mate. All kidding aside, It would be nice to nail this down somewhere in NZ…the California coast keeps getting hit by these small tsunami waves caused by ALL the Kiwi’s marching up and down the west coast, rocking the island, trying to get a good seat for your arrival Shaun. Keep up the amazing work mate…you’re almost home.

Hey big Q dog,
All is looking good. Been a bit out of contact as I went down to a mates 50th in Chistchurch for the weekend. Went to watch the Blues play the Crusaders on saturday night, that was so bad I would have happily changed seats with you for the two hours. The arrival in the north is a great idea, they caught 11 marlin off the manukau in the weekend. You might be able to pick one up on the way in, another chapter for the book.
Keep rowing young man. Talk soon.
Where you go we go Shaun so just take it as it comes. Clean the bum and come home mate> we’ll be there. Loz
Hi Shaun..dont worry,if you are planning a landing up north I’ll warn Deb and Rob to expect an invasion of your followers, dont think there will be much room though …may have to put them up in the dog kennels..haha..We are all patiently awaiting (or impatiently) your arrival.
Keep up the good work.

Morning Shaun, I have never been to the west coast of the upper North Island so looking forward to racing up there to meet you on the beach with all the TIMEX flags flying! You are in the home stretch now so keep strong.
Waving to you from Onehunga Wharf! Bloody, bloody, weather – but hang in there, A beach – some beach – in NZ is in your immediate future! If you should happen to end up in the Manukau Harbour – row straight for us, we will walk down the road to meet you with eggs, sausages, and a bottle of single malt. Kia kaha xx
Go Shaun, Bring it in through the mighty Kaipara …. Hope to see you on the shore. Blessings, Carol
Well done, what an amazing feat you are doing, love the attitude. Can remember when your father did it, and followed him as well. All the best for the rest of your journey.Great support team as well!!
What an awesome effort. The weather must be sooo frustrating…I imagine even Wilson feels a bit deflated. Keep it up.
Keep strong Quincey – not far to go now. Hopefully the weather will be kind to you over the next few days. You do realise that you can’t land until after Nationals now. Gives everyone a chance to welcome you home in style. It kinda seems that the powers that be think you should land somewhere close to where your Dad left from on his journey.
Not much you can do about the weather but be patient. The way you are going it could be an east coast landing! All the best
Just checking in before going to bed to see where you are. Due west of Auckland! Can you see the lights! Fantastic effort, keep it going. Wishing you fair winds. Cheers from Devonport.
