The Winds Have Turned // Day 50
For the majority of the day there was minimal wind but Shaun battled against east moving swells. At about 4pm the winds finally turned to Westerlies and he started to make good progress toward NZ.
Today Shaun cleaned the hull of Tasman Trespasser 2, for the last time ever, and also got the boat fully ready for the strong winds that are coming over the next few days.
He saw another whale and started seeing rubbish which was strangely comforting for him!
One big worry for Shaun is that he is down to his last few squares of TP!

Mate, give it hundy, land not far away. Legend!
Regards. Gordo
Can you please arrange to arrive in Hokianga after 0900 – we don’t surface until then!!! Watching your progress every day and your progress straight to us.
What an achievement!!!

Hi Shaun,
What great progress you’ve made – on the live map NZ is getting bigger and bigger. Clearly you are on whale-mail as they seem to be keeping a check on you regularly. If you’ve seen rubbish we clearly need to clean up our act if that’s the first thing people rowing or sailing in here see. The next thing you’ll see is boats – you’re almost close enough now to have visitors. Come on home.
Stay safe Quincey, Hokianga here you come. Very historic place about to have another chapter written. You’re not finding those whales attractive I hope. Talk to yourself if you must. You’ll soon smell the “far north”. Loz
big you are killing it! keep up the great work and i am sure mongrel will have a pleasant suprise for you when you land… also contemplating a bit oe in aus this year – lummy suggested you might want to row back for it…?
Almost there now. Stay safe.Best Wishes.
GO QUINCEY!!!!!!!!!!! not far now!! Hope the winds stay strong and favourable!
Go Q-Dog you machine, Making great progress brother keep it up and before you know it you will be back at Paper Moon for some friday afternoon 4 for 20’s.
We are all hoping the westerly continues until your arrival, which could infact make for some impressive ocean rowing/surf boating come touch down. Keep up the good effort mate, less than a week to go!!!!!
Thinking of you. West, west, west – our bags are packed and ready now, just waiting for the ‘when’ and ‘where’ to see you. You’re doing so well – just a bit more!
Shaun you legend! You are doing so well and I’m loving keeping track of your progress. In 02 at that leadership camp you were applauded with that giraffe for sticking your neck out and just being you and we are still applauding! Will be praying for your safe travels! Keep going hard. Trish Parker (nee Edmonds).
Nice work rowing until 11pm. If you don’t make it to Muriwai in time to be welcomed by the surfboaties on Saturday, we’ll welcome you to junior club champs on Sunday instead.
Keep it cranking it big guy – almost home.
