Its been 4 months since I landed on 90 mile beach and being back in NZ has been fantastic. I thought with the Tasman behind me that the major challenge was over and i could start to relax a small amount but this certainly hasn’t been the case and I have been lucky enough to have traveled all over New Zealand and a few trips overseas telling the tale of the Tasman crossing.

As well as telling the stories I have been chipping away writing a book about the expedition finally handing in the manuscript last Thursday with a total of 81497 words and I am currently picking 60 photos which I would like to be included which is proving increasingly hard.

Immediately after handing the book in a film crew arrived and started to get stuck into filming the Tasman Trespasser documentary involving a number of interviews with Michael my land manager and a number of other people who were involved with the entire campaign.

Because of the amount of support I received from all over New Zealand this November Tasman Trespasser 2 is going on a Tour of New Zealand and currently we are planing on visiting over 36 towns in both the North and South Island. Over the next few weeks I will be confirming the Towns and letting every one know where I will be and when I will be there !

See You Soon

It only seems like a few days ago i was running through my safety procedures preparing for a crash landing some where in the north of New Zealand. Over the last month i have been getting around as many people as i can who helped with the expedition and previous planing and sharing a few stories of the expedition. The first week back was fairly crazy with almost no time at home, I was just being shifted from interview to interview which was great fun but by the end of it i was craving a little bit of quiet home time. One of the highlights of being back at home again is i have been able to go for a row with Dad around Auckland harbor which was great fun and a really unique experience cementing the achievement for me.

Tasman Trespasser 2 is currently being stored in a Warehouse on the North Shore after being given a solid clean out, and I am working with the Martime Museum to come up with a viable solution to have it on display there under Dads Boat which would be awesome!

I have been lucky enough to start working with Harper Collins publishing and i will be releasing a Book in November this year about the expedition and so of the crazy time I spent out on the Tasman Sea, another exciting aspect is there has been some good interest in producing a documentary on the expedition using a lot of the footage I took from the trip so fingers crossed for this to be released next March !

The plywood and fibre glass boat was lacking todays modern wonders of Global positioning systems and satilite phones. Colin self navigated his way across the Tasman using a sextant and dead reconing. Having to carry his own water the entire hull was filled with 900 pounds of fresh water. The open top boat had a Radar Reflector and VHF radio aerial even though he communicated with no one over the course of his expedition.

At approximately midday today New Zealand’s latest legend, Shaun Quincey, put his feet back on NZ soil after 54 days at sea!

After a campaign that was marred by setbacks, Shaun can finally claim to be the first man to row solo from Aussie to NZ after his father, Colin, completed the same feat in the opposite direction some 35 years ago! The final hurdle, the landing, was the most dangerous of the whole trip as 3m+ swells slammed into 90 mile beach forcing Shaun to ditch his boat in the surf break and swim the rest of the way in whilst TT2 surfed and rolled its way to shore!

Shaun and his support team would like to thank the sponsors and supporters who turned up to Ahipara early this morning to drive up and down 90mile beach as Shaun’s landing changed a few times. After talking to Shaun he was absolutely stoked to be on NZ sand and to see his family and friends once again.

Stay tuned to the site for more TT2 info over the next few weeks. Shaun will definitely be a busy boy as the spotlight shines over his incredible achievement!

Thanks for your support!

Speaking to Shaun this morning he is very upbeat about his progress. Again he managed to minimise his Northerly drift. Since getting back on the oars this morning his progress east has been outstanding. Currently there are people on their way up Ninety Mile Beach to welcome Shaun and the Tasman Trespasser 2 home. If you are able to make your way there please do so.

What an amazing adventure, his final challenge still lays ahead of him. The Tasman providing challenges right to the very end with 3m swells hampering his landing and testing the big man! His tenacity and courage thus far will need to persist for a few more hours this morning, but we are confident with the help of supporters and Surf Life Saving crews this will be the final victory in a monumental journey.

A huge huge thank you to all sponsors and supporters who have been amazing! Shaun will be thanking you personally very soon.

TT2 signing off.
